  • unEarthed | Bringing the Stories to Light

Rat's Nest Cave has a unique story to share with each and every one of its visitors. Its sculpted passages, massive spaces and ancient formations excite a sense of wonder while setting the imagination aflame.

unEarthed seeks to explore the different ways we connect with the Earth and its darkest places beyond the realm of adventure. The physicality of moving through the cave is only a part of the story.

The cave is a blank canvas; a limitless opportunity to speak to any and all of our senses. Be it in darkness or light, silence or sound, your story of the cave is waiting to be told.

Into the Woods: Concert in the Cave

June 5th, 2017: Raine Hamilton and Brett Nelson

Join prairie songstress Raine Hamilton and quixotic rambler Brett Nelson for a once-in-a-lifetime performance deep in the Heart of Rat's Nest Cave, near Canmore, Alberta.

The pair combine the open resonance of the prairie with the raw, exposed edges of the mountains; Their songs are connected with the land, drawn from lived experience, and created from the inside out. The result is a moving, honest, and nostalgic acoustic experience over 10 stories under the Earth. Expect to leave with a full heart, smiling face, and tapping toes.

    Tour Details

Explore the Rat's Nest Cave:  Interactive Map

Rat’s Nest Cave is a constant 5°C (41°F) all year.  Why is that?  Because caves reflect the mean annual temperature, so no matter what the outside weather is like, it’s always pleasant inside the cave.  Like most alpine caves, it is cool in summer, mild in winter.  In 1987, the cave was designated a Provincial Historic Site.  Access to the cave is restricted to protect the delicate environment within. The Rat’s Nest Cave has over 4 km of explored passage, and lies under Grotto Mountain near Canmore, Alberta.
